House/Property Rules

Purchasing a house is perhaps the most momentous decision a player can make in the game, right after the choice of class and personality he intends to play.
It is a vital element in our personal game universe- the base, where we store our loot, where we return after a day's hard killing, the place where we throw our boots down and call "home". Knowing we have a safe haven makes it easier to go forward and more enjoyable to return.
For most players, it will also be their grand objective for quite a long time.
Yet, in a universe where magic unleashes terrible forces, simple brick and clay would provide little protection. Luckily for those who want a safe haven and a nest where they can keep their families safe, magic also affords protection.
In this day and age, magic turns out to be the most expensive part of outfitting a refuge, but it is also the one we can't do without.
As set in the city codex, the rules for buying and holding a house, and the protection afforded by the city is explicit and clear.

1st You should find within the city a house which is as yet unclaimed. By examining the door you can see which kind of house it is (small, medium or large).

2nd After you have decided which house you want, go to the real estate dealer (mage shop) and buy a deed of the appropriate type. You shall not be able to take possession of a large house with a small house deed.

3rd After buying the deed, sign your name on it (double click) to make it yours. This means that nobody else can claim a house with your deed, even if they steal it from you.

4th Carrying the deed on your backpack, knock on the door you have chosen to claim.

5th The deed will be converted into a property deed, marked with your name, and you shall get two magic bells.

6th Use the bells. Each will give you a key. That key will be used to open that door. You can keep the bells in the bank, and carry the key. When you use the bell again, it will retrieve the key, wherever it is at the moment. This is your safety in case the key is stolen, or if you find you gave the key to a person unworthy of your trust.
Do NOT give the bell to anyone else. If you do that you can never retrieve it unless that person returns it to you, or you claim it from his dead body.

7th Should you desire to have more keys to your house, just make a mark on your property deed and the magic of the house will create another magic key bell. This will consume one tenth of the price of the house. Remember, magic is expensive, but it gives you unparalleled protection.

8th Should you find a deed marked with somebody else's name, do not use it, as the magic in it shall recognize you as an intruder and slay you. Rather seek the owner and give it back.

Be advised that some unscrupulous people have tried to deceive others with their deeds. You are safe by taking it, just as long as you do not use it.
